Materials Officer

Our client in the construction and engineering sector is seeking an enthusiastic and pragmatic Materials Officer to join their team. The Materials Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the company has the necessary materials and equipment to complete construction projects on time and within budget.

To this end, the Materials Officer should obtain all relevant project specifications, determine the most appropriate building materials, and secure favourable prices on all resources. You should also inspect trends in construction to determine whether your estimates are both reasonable and competitive.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage the procurement of construction materials and equipment, including sourcing, purchasing, and delivery.

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and ensure that materials and equipment are stored safely and securely.

  • Coordinate with project managers and construction teams to ensure that the necessary materials and equipment are available when needed.

  • Conduct regular quality checks on materials and equipment to ensure that they meet the required standards and specifications.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure that the company is receiving competitive pricing and timely deliveries.

  • Manage the disposal of surplus materials and equipment.

  • Prepare and provide regular reports on materials and equipment inventory and usage.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in materials management or quantity surveying in the construction sector.

  • Strong understanding of construction materials and equipment.
