Designer / Pattern Maker (Clothing / Fashion Sector)

A leading Clothing Manufacturing Company is looking for a skilled fashion designer or patternmaker to create factory patterns for their clothing business as well as oversee the research and production of new clothing lines based on current trends in the market.

In this role, you will be required to study blueprints and design models, create paper templates, and design the final pattern for mass production.

To ensure success as a patternmaker, you should have extensive experience with pattern design, fine motor skills, and a good eye for detail. A top-class patternmaker will keep an eye on the street, travel to shows and read fashion magazines to spot trends and interpret specific color palettes, patterns and prints for each season.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Managing design process from conception through to final styling.

  • Conducting market research to identify new trends, fabrics and techniques, and seeking design inspiration.

  • Collaborating with team members to select seasonal themes, make edits to line, and create new concepts.

  • Ensuring product is in agreement with business strategy.

  • Selecting fabrics and trims.

  • Reading and interpreting design models and blueprints.

  • Creating rough-draft templates using computer drafting software and freehand techniques.

  • Measuring, cutting, and designing patterns in the material required.

  • Double-checking the pattern dimensions and style.

  • Sending the initial pattern for a manufacture check.

  • Meeting with designers to review the final product.

  • Tweaking the pattern and filing the design.

  • Reporting back to company managers.


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Ability to do sketches by hand.

  • Proficient with computer drafting software including CAD.

  • Excellent fine motor skills.

  • Experience with measuring, snipping, milling, and cutting tools.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Ability to work to a deadline.

  • Excellent design and conceptual skills.

  • Excellent sense of style and color.
