Zvimba Rural District Council is seeking a skilled and experienced Civil Technician to join its team. Reporting to the District Engineer, you will provide crucial support in the design, tendering process, construction supervision, and management of road, wash, and construction projects.

Your responsibilities will include conducting infrastructure condition inspections, surveys, and assessments to determine the scope of works required for upgrading and rehabilitating roads and WASH infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist the District Engineer in the design, tendering process, and construction supervision of road, wash, and construction projects.

  • Conduct inspections and surveys of civil infrastructure to identify defects and problems, and propose appropriate upgrading and rehabilitation interventions.

  • Collaborate with the District Engineer and other stakeholders to develop project plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and documentation related to infrastructure projects.

  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of contractors for project implementation.

  • Monitor project progress, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and timelines.

  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify the quality of workmanship and adherence to safety regulations.

  • Work closely with contractors, consultants, and other relevant parties to resolve technical issues and ensure project success.

  • Keep accurate records of project activities, including measurements, quantities, and progress reports.

  • Stay updated with relevant civil engineering principles, practices, and regulations applicable to government and council operations.

  • Utilize computer software, such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D, for planning, modeling, and design of civil infrastructure.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering or a Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience for degree holders and 5 years for HND holders, preferably in a local authority or similar organizational operations.

  • Membership with the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE) or Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ) in the Technical/Corporate Member grade is mandatory.

  • Possession of a clean class four driver's license is an added advantage.

  • No criminal record.

  • Project management qualification is an added advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and methods, particularly in a government and council setting.

  • Ability to analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geotechnical data for project execution.

  • Proficiency in using standard and specialized software, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D, for planning, modeling, and designing civil infrastructure.
