We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Buyer to join our team. The Buyer will be responsible for analyzing customer buying patterns, understanding seasonal trends, and predicting future trends to ensure zero stock outs on shelves.

You will handle the procurement process, including sending out enquiries, analyzing quotations, placing orders with suppliers, and ensuring timely delivery within budget. The Buyer will also be responsible for stock management, product merchandising, market intelligence, and routine reporting. People management in line with HR policies will be essential in this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Analyze customer buying patterns and seasonal trends to ensure adequate stock availability.

  • Predict future trends and use scientific ordering techniques to prevent stock outs on shelves.

  • Send enquiries for materials, analyze quotations, and place orders with suitable suppliers.

  • Ensure goods are delivered on the required date and purchased at competitive rates within budget.

  • Comply with the Category Management Schedule and apply basic merchandising rules.

  • Ensure purchased goods meet required quality and performance standards.

  • Provide prompt feedback to suppliers regarding trade issues.

  • Account for all stocks at the store and conduct regular stock counts.

  • Report any variances to the Store Manager.

  • Develop and implement controls to manage shrinkage through theft, damages, and expiry.

  • Maintain a correct product mix that satisfies customer needs and preferences.

  • Manage shop layout and product mix on the shelves in collaboration with the Shop Manager and Floor Supervisor.

  • Ensure effective product displays and engage with customers.

  • Conduct market intelligence to stay updated on industry trends and competitor activities.

  • Prepare routine reports on purchasing and stock management activities.

  • Ensure people management in line with HR policies.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or Degree in Purchasing & Supply Chain Management/Retail Management.

  • At least 2 years of working experience in the retail supermarket FMCG industry.

  • 5 "O" levels including Maths and English.

  • Experience in working with executives and providing professional advice.

  • Understanding of human resource management concepts.

  • Knowledge of statutes governing the operations of a retail supermarket.
