Human Resources Manager

The Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) is a reputable institution focused on biomedical research and training. We are dedicated to improving public health outcomes through innovative research initiatives.

BRTI is currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced Human Resources Manager to oversee all human resources functions within the organization.

In this role, you will be responsible for recruitment and selection, staff development, health, safety, and welfare, compensation, performance management, and labour relations.

The HR Manager will play a crucial role in maintaining a productive and positive work environment that aligns with BRTI's values and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall program strategy.

  • Work closely with the payroll master to ensure accurate staff payroll maintenance and timely staff compensation.

  • Manage the recruitment and selection process, including advertising and conducting competitive interviews.

  • Provide staff contracts and conduct new staff orientations, ensuring complete staff files and records.

  • Ensure clear job descriptions are communicated to all staff and maintain up-to-date records.

  • Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.

  • Address demands, grievances, and conflict resolution to maintain positive management-employee relations.

  • Foster staff motivation, retention, and a positive working environment.

  • Arrange disciplinary hearings, board of enquiries, exit interviews, and manage contract termination processes.

  • Manage staff leave in accordance with BRTI policy and statutory requirements.

  • Support human resources planning, development, engagement, and preservation aligned with program needs.

  • Assist in maintaining the employee terminal benefits program in collaboration with the Finance and Operations Manager.

  • Review and recommend an equitable salary system through regular remuneration reviews.

  • Ensure standardization of benefits and salary bands across the organization.

  • Monitor staff benefits such as loans, advances, and other entitlements.

  • Promote compliance with the BRTI Child Protection Policy and Staff Manual.

  • Contribute to preventing sexual abuse, exploitation, and harassment within the organization.

  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure the non-disclosure of sensitive information.

  • Assess training needs, coordinate training schedules, and monitor training programs.

  • Coordinate response to adverse events and incidents affecting staff.

  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.

  • Membership of a professional body and a master's degree in Human Capital Development or a related field is an added advantage.

  • At least 5 years of working experience as an HR Manager or in a similar HR leadership position.

  • In-depth knowledge of labor law, HR best practices, and understanding of USG PEPFAR funded program regulations is an added advantage.

  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and ability to demonstrate good judgment and discretion.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to function as a catalyst and coach for employee development.

  • Proficiency in HR systems and databases.

  • Experience with HR metrics and data analysis.

  • Strong active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
