Saint-Gobain Construction Products is seeking a qualified and experienced Plant Engineer to manage the physical assets and engineering activities within the plant.

The Plant Engineer will be responsible for ensuring plant efficiency, coordinating maintenance tasks, implementing improvement projects, and leading the engineering teams. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background, knowledge of maintenance and engineering procedures, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage the physical assets under your control, ensuring running order, preservation, and plant efficiency.

  • Supervise and plan the daily tasks of the internal mechanical and electrical teams, projects, and engineering stores sections.

  • Supervise the execution of all engineering tasks conducted by subcontractors on site.

  • Comply with the Internal Control Reference Framework (ICRF) book, with specific emphasis on engineering and production procedures.

  • Formulate and plan daily, weekly, and yearly maintenance tasks, and follow up on their implementation to ensure adherence to the preventive maintenance (PM) schedule and attainment of Plant Performance KPIs, MTTR, and MTBF.

  • Ensure good maintenance standards to minimize downtime and cost.

  • Coordinate with the Engineering Foreman to ensure all engineering documentation, such as job cards, enhanced work orders (EWOs), checklists, and failure log sheets, are in place as per procedure.

  • Identify and implement plant improvement projects.

  • Draft, lay out, and specify technical devices, parts, and equipment. Provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications that show how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.

  • Lead project teams to ensure World Class Manufacturing (WCM) projects are completed on time.

  • Prepare Capital Expenditure (Capex) applications for improvement projects.

  • Ensure contractor compliance with all Saint-Gobain (SG) standards and procedures.

  • Inform plant management of any situations or conditions that could result in downtime and take necessary remedial action to minimize downtime.

  • Negotiate, in the company's interests, with suppliers of equipment and services, ensuring proper specifications are given and work is of the required standard.

  • Maintain an accurate level of critical spares and consumables.

  • Ensure good quality control of all received spares.

  • Take ownership of the Reliability pillar under WCM and perform any other duties required to sustain WCM at the site.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervising authority, such as the Plant Manager.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Completion of a 2-year post-graduate learnership program.

  • Minimum of 2 years of post-traineeship work experience.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience with SAGE/SAP.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge and application of basic tools, such as OPLs, SOPs, Tags, QKs, EWOs, etc.

  • Familiarity with ISO9001, ISO14001, and OH&S 45001 systems.

  • Analytical and troubleshooting ability.

  • Report writing skills.

  • Knowledge of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles would be advantageous.
