Capstan Operator

Zimasco is a leading ferrochrome producer in Zimbabwe. Applications are invited from suitably qualified, competent and experienced individuals to fill the following vacant post in the Mining Division on a contract basis.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Capstan Operator to join our team. The Capstan Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining Capstan machines used in the production of ferrochrome products.

The successful candidate will have experience in operating and maintaining capstan machines, as well as a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Inspecting capstans/tipplers and reporting faults and recommending maintenance.

  • Operating capstans/tipplers during crushing and loading ores.

  • Coupling and decoupling scoops during crushing and loading operations.

  • Inspecting scoops, rings and pins before and after tipping.

  • Inspecting conveyor belts during operation.

  • Crushing and loading ore as specified.

  • Operate capstan machines to produce high-quality ferrochrome products

  • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal performance

  • Perform routine maintenance on capstan machines to ensure they are in good working condition

  • Troubleshoot and resolve machine malfunctions and breakdowns

  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards

  • Follow safety procedures at all times to prevent accidents and injuries

  • Maintain accurate records of production and machine maintenance

  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure that production runs smoothly and efficiently


Qualifications and Experience:

  • 4 years of secondary education.

  • Must be below 30 years of age.

  • Knowledge of NOSA and other Safety, Health and Environmental Systems is an added advantage.

  • At least a year working in a mining environment
